Power Failure in Anchorage Airport

Power Failure in the Anchorage Airport caused control towers to black out. Fortunately, air traffic was light and there were no accidents. This occurred during the early morning on Sunday. The power failures included two back up systems.

What a dangerous situation for all involved. I can't imagine what the air traffic controllers and pilots were thinking.  FAA regional administrator said that the situation was handled safely and would have been handled safely, even with more traffic activity. The air traffic controlling would have been handed over to the Elmendorf Air Traffic Tower off Boniface. Thank goodness for back up!

Anchorage Housing Market Update- July 2009

 

As of July 31, 2009 there were 26 homes for sale in the price range $0-$174,999. 12 homes in this price range were pended, 9 homes had closed during the month, with an average Day On Market of 72.

As of July 31, 2009 there were 28 homes actively on the market in the $175,000-$200,000 range. 20 homes in that price range were pended, with a total of 5 homes closed during the month. Average Day on Market of homes in this price range was 46 days.

 

As of July 31, 2009 there were 33 homes actively on the market in the $200,000-$224,999 range. 17 homes were pended, 11 homes had closed during the month, with an average day on market of 54 days.

 

As of July 31, 2009 there were 59 homes on the market in the $225,000-$249,999 range. 32 homes were pended, 18 homes had sold in the month with an average marketing time of 44 days.

 

As of July 31, 2009 there were 170 homes on the market in the $250,000-$299,999 price range.  73 homes were pended, 51 homes had sold during the month with an average marketing period of 36 days.

A Family Lives Alone in a 32- story Condo Alone. Family wants Out...

I just read a story about Victor Vangelakos and his family living in a 32 story condo all by themselves. They are the only family that is occupying a unit in the Huge 32 Story Condo building. While the other buyers were able to swap contracts to buy a condo next door, Vangelakos and his family was unable to do so because their lender did not allow it. Read more here.

Weather in Anchorage, Alaska sure is Cooling

Wow, the weather in Anchorage is cooling quickly! When I was at a showing on the Anchorage Hillside yesterday, my buyer mentioned how chilly and windy it felt compared to just a few days ago.  This drastic change is not anything new to most Alaskans. I mean we can have rain one minute and sunshine the next minute. 

 

With the oncoming coldness, I just wanted to remind my fellow Alaskans of what a beautiful summer we have had this year. It was a good one!
